13% of Maine’s population is food insecure. This means that:
1 in 8 Mainers struggles to buy food.
1 in 5 children is facing hunger.
In 2022, Maine was ranked 21st in the nation (tied with two other states) and 1st in New England for household food insecurity.
The Caring Community Cupboard (CCC) serves over 400 adults and children in the greater Old Town area as well as Bangor and Brewer. Most shoppers are from Old Town (50%), Orono (17%), Milford (10%), and Greenbush (4%).
Generous weekly donations from Old Town Hannaford supermarket and the public, along with purchases from the Good Shepherd Food Bank, ensure that our inventory is ever-changing. However, due to significant federal funding cuts affecting the Good Shepherd Food Bank, our food deliveries from them have been drastically reduced, necessitating a decrease in our service area. To shop with us now, you must:
be a resident of Old Town
not be a student, staff member, or faculty member of the University of Maine
In addition to financial contributions, we accept unopened, unexpired food donations and fresh produce.
